Upgrading My Childhood Room

Hey fam!

Being at home during quarantine has allowed me the time (and plenty of it) to make some much needed style improvements to my current space. Seeing as the pandemic has cut out all of my work, and unemployment insurance is precious, I didn't have the typical budget for room renovations. I figured, since I'm here for the foreseeable future, and I'm spending so much time here, why not use my creativity in a way that was fun and inexpensive? Using pieces I already had, a few new secondhand pieces, and some additions I found for a bargain, I got my room to reflect a little more of my 26-year old self.

I love plants and flowers, and I really think they help give a space a great energy. Fresh cut flowers are always preferred, and easy to care for houseplants (like the snake plant, pathos, and philodendron pictured below) make it feel more, well, green.

Chinoiserie Vase: $7.99 TjMaxx

Eye coaster: $5 Anthropologie

Frame: $3 Goodwill, with a Boston fern leaf from the front porch

Letter Box, Brown vase, lamp: already owned

My most favorite purchase was this leather chair I found at a local Ross. I didn't at first want to try to fit a chair in this room, but when I realized that I could go ahead and get it for when I needed to move back to NYC, I went for it. It was probably one of the more expensive 'real life' things I had purchased in a while, at $150. It's a tight squeeze right now, but I know it will eventually look great in the new apartment.

Wood/Metal shelf: :$12.99 Ross

Plant pots: $4-7 TjMaxx & Walmart

Philodendron: $7.99 Trader Joes

Pathos: $10 Home Depot

Plant stand: Repurposed and repainted bench!

A gallery wall was something I knew I wanted to try out. I had seen it on Pinterest, and I loved the look of having a wall completely covered in art. Clean lines, aesthetically pleasing arrangements, hanging different objects, etc.

For this wall, everything that is framed is something that I already had, or made --- AKA, free!

The ballerina paintings belonged to my grandmother, the Palmistry Guide and World Map Posters I picked up in San Francisco years ago, and the Shit Will Happen poster was one I had in college. All I really had to do with any of this wall was frame and find a way to hang them. Command strips are the easiest way and very affordable per package, especially if you cut them in half. My gallery wall is still in the process and I'll add something if I pass an interesting frame, or have an idea for where to put something.

Frames: $2 - $16 Goodwill & Target

Old cameras: Free from my garage

My bedding was something I wanted to grow up a little bit, so I opted for white on white - and yes, I still eat snacks on my bed. Grabbed this piece of fabric from my aunts house, and added some pillows I found at Target for some added texture. I think I could still use some more.

My Rooms To Go bed frame and matching furniture aren't necessarily my favorite. They're very large, heavy, and not really my style as of now, BUT I think I've been able to work with what I have to elevate it a little.

Pillows: $12 - $20 Target

As you can see, I still don't have curtains, but hey, I'm gonna be here for a while. Whats the rush? :)
